| MISSION STATEMENT
Contemporary world portrays unharmonious progression of human life. Increased economic inequalities between and within nations, military clashes, escalating levels of environmental degradation and, notably, indignity and disrespect widely evident in human and national relations are but few problem areas of the new millennium.
Fast moving globalization on the one hand and the powerful pull of nationalism and ethnicity on the other have opened up new and multidisciplinary dimensions and challenges of examining the social construction of individual identity. Globalization has led to multidimensional definition of individual self. What is challenging at this juncture of profound transformations in human relations is how to sustain national dignity and cultural identity. SSECD believes that cultural peculiarities and traditions are important for dynamic global development.
The world urgently requires global visions of affirmation and enrichment of cultural identities and sustenance of dignity of each civilization and nation. At the heart of SSECD's mission and activities is the genetic growth of national cultures and human development through education, science, culture and communication. Thus, it seeks to create a link between cultural peculiarities and distinctiveness on the one hand, and globalization with a human face on the other.
SSECD's basic mission is to promote forms of social, scientific, cultural, and educational development, which aim to reduce academic poverty, individual hardship and vulnerability throughout the world, especially amongst disadvantaged scholars. It strives for recognition of intellectuals and protection of their fundamental rights to information, research, and publication. It believes that these rights are an essential foundation for free flow and development of knowledge, cultural growth, understanding, cooperation, and academic rigor. |
